Chief Digital Officer: Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the organisation's digital strategy aligned to corporate objectives and measurable KPIs.
  • Lead large scale digital transformation programmes to improve revenue, operational efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Own the digital product and service lifecycle, prioritisation and delivery roadmap.
  • Build and develop multidisciplinary digital teams, talent pipelines and capability frameworks.
  • Establish and enforce digital governance, data stewardship and risk management practices.
  • Manage digital investment, budget allocation and return on investment assessments.
  • Collaborate with executive peers to integrate digital initiatives across business functions.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor and partner relationships and commercial agreements.
  • Champion user centred design and continuous improvement of customer digital experiences.
  • Ensure digital services meet regulatory, privacy and information security requirements.
  • Define metrics, performance dashboards and report progress to the board and senior stakeholders.

Chief Digital Officer: Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, information management or related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • At least 10 years of progressive digital experience with a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of leading successful enterprise digital transformations and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen with experience of P&L accountability and investment decision making.
  • In depth knowledge of data governance, analytics and information security principles.
  • Experience of managing complex programmes and portfolios with robust programme governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and board level reporting skills.
  • Ability to build, lead and motivate high performing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of vendor management and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Strong decision making, prioritisation and problem solving skills in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience of regulatory and compliance matters relevant to digital services.
  • Professional certifications in digital leadership, programme management or related fields are advantageous.
