Fulfillment Job Profile

The Fulfillment role is responsible for executing end to end order processing activities to ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods. The role supports inventory control, order picking, packing, returns handling and shipping preparation within a warehouse or distribution environment.

The purpose of the position is to maintain service levels and operational efficiency by following standard operating procedures, meeting key performance indicators and collaborating with colleagues across operations and logistics teams.

The role operates in a fast paced, deadline driven environment where accuracy and consistency are essential. The postholder will perform physical tasks including picking, packing and movement of stock while applying quality checks to prevent errors and damage. They will be expected to follow documented processes, maintain clear records and escalate exceptions promptly.

Regular responsibilities include preparing orders for dispatch, verifying shipment accuracy and supporting stock reconciliation activities. The role requires adherence to health and safety standards, contribution to continuous improvement initiatives and the ability to meet volume fluctuations, including seasonal peaks.

Fulfillment: Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments, check quantities and record discrepancies
  • Accurately pick customer orders according to order sheets or picking lists
  • Pack products to company standards ensuring correct labelling and protection
  • Prepare and stage orders for dispatch and handover to carriers
  • Perform quality checks to confirm product condition and correct SKU selection
  • Process returns and quarantine damaged or incorrect stock as required
  • Maintain organised and clean work areas to meet safety and housekeeping standards
  • Complete and update inventory records and assist with cycle counts
  • Report and document stock variances, lost items and shipment exceptions
  • Work to established KPIs such as accuracy, throughput and turnaround times
  • Follow standard operating procedures and comply with health and safety rules
  • Support onboarding and training of temporary or new staff during peak periods
  • Assist with packing material replenishment and basic stock handling tasks
  • Contribute to process improvements to reduce errors and increase efficiency

Fulfillment: Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent; level of education appropriate to role
  • Prior experience in warehouse, distribution or fulfilment operations preferred
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
  • Basic numeracy and recordkeeping skills for stock and order verification
  • Physically able to perform manual handling duties and prolonged standing
  • Clear verbal communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures and quality checks
  • Ability to follow written instructions and complete checklists consistently
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shift patterns where required
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines
  • Problem solving skills to identify and escalate issues promptly
  • Commitment to health and safety practices and safe use of equipment
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads and seasonal volume variations
