Senior Auditor Job Description
The Senior Auditor plans, executes and concludes audit engagements in line with approved audit programmes and professional standards. This includes scoping assignments, developing audit procedures, performing control testing, analysing results, and drafting factual and balanced reports that identify root causes and practical remediation actions.
In this role the Senior Auditor will liaise with process owners and management to validate findings, negotiate remediation plans and follow up on agreed actions until closure. The role requires clear, concise reporting of audit conclusions to stakeholders and contribution to risk assessments, trends analysis and continuous improvement initiatives within the audit function.
The Senior Auditor is also responsible for supervising and developing junior auditors, ensuring working papers and documentation meet quality and compliance requirements, and supporting ad hoc reviews and investigations as required by management or regulators.
Senior Auditor: Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and manage end-to-end audit engagements, including scoping, resourcing and scheduling.
- Develop risk-based audit programmes and detailed testing procedures.
- Perform control testing, substantive testing and data analysis to evaluate control effectiveness.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based working papers and maintain audit documentation to required standards.
- Identify, assess and document control weaknesses and business risks with practical recommendations.
- Draft audit reports and communicate findings to process owners and senior management.
- Monitor and follow up on remediation plans to ensure timely closure of audit issues.
- Support the annual audit planning process and update risk assessments based on emerging issues.
- Supervise, mentor and review the work of junior audit staff to build capability and ensure quality.
- Coordinate with external auditors and other assurance providers where required.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of audit methodology, templates and tools.

Senior Auditor: Requirements and Qualifications
- Degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Professional accounting or audit qualification preferred, eg ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years practical audit experience, including experience leading assignments.
- Strong knowledge of auditing standards, internal control frameworks and risk management principles.
- Proven ability to apply a risk-based approach to audit planning and execution.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Clear and concise report writing skills and the ability to present findings to senior stakeholders.
- Good interpersonal skills with experience in stakeholder management and negotiation.
