The postholder acts as a key adviser to the executive team, supports capital allocation decisions and leads the finance team to deliver accurate, timely information that underpins operational and strategic decision making.

VP of Finance Job Description

The VP of Finance leads end to end financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and statutory accounts. This role maintains and strengthens internal controls, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and oversees audit and tax activities. The incumbent will prepare and present financial analysis to the board and senior stakeholders to inform strategic direction.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the VP of Finance is expected to develop and mentor a high-performing finance team, implement efficient financial processes and partner with commercial functions to drive performance improvement. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement with investors, lenders and external advisors when required.

Operationally, the VP of Finance will balance strategic initiatives with delivery of routine financial operations, ensuring timely close cycles, accurate reporting and effective cash and treasury management. The role demands sound judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.

VP of Finance: Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the finance strategy aligned to corporate objectives and growth plans.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting and scenario modeling.
  • Ensure accurate and timely management and statutory reporting to stakeholders.
  • Oversee treasury, cash flow management and working capital optimisation.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls, policies and financial governance.
  • Manage external audit, tax and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Support capital raising, investor relations and lender reporting as required.
  • Drive cost management programmes and initiatives to improve profitability.
  • Assess and lead financial aspects of mergers, acquisitions and other strategic transactions.

  • Recruit, develop and retain a skilled finance team, fostering professional development.

VP of Finance: Requirements and Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent) with full professional accreditation.
  • Typically 10 plus years of progressive finance experience with at least five years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, reporting and corporate finance.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory reporting, governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing audits, tax matters and external financial advisors.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading change and improving finance processes and controls.
  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders and boards.
  • Commercially minded with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
